OOTD: Go Shorty, It's Your Birthday

Mar 31, 2011

This is what I wore out to dinner last night to celebrate my birthday. I went out to dinner at a Mexican restaurant with my sister and friends. I had some strawberry margaritas and they were really yummy! I had a nice time and it was a good birthday overall.

By the way, how awesome is my tan? It's courtesy of the L'oreal Sublime Bronze self tanner. I love that stuff! Review will be coming soon.

OOTD: La Veuve Noire

Forever 21 blazer
Unknown brand sheer lace top
H&M skirt
Jeffrey Campbell booties

This is an outfit that I wore for a night out with the girls. People kept asking me about where I got my shirt so why not just do an OOTD?

Believe or not, I only paid NINE dollars for my top! And it's by pure chance that I found it too. There's a store named "Pretty Girl" on the corner of the bus stop that I get on to take the bus home. It's one of those stores that sells inexpensive stuff and whatnot. Usually nothing really catches my eye until that day. I saw the shirt on a mannequin and thought it was so pretty so I got one in black and one in nude. So I got two of them for less than twenty dollars, go me! I just love when I find cool stuff in random places!

Unfortuantely, I don't remember the brand because I cut the tag off since it looked pretty unsightly because the shirt is so sheer. But there are a whole bunch of "Pretty Girls" around NYC so there's a chance that you can find one if you're in the NYC area.

without the blazer. the top is sheer, lace and long sleeved.

that beer was already there when I got there ;)

my badass Tick wedges
My black Tick wedges were perfect for this outfit. They are amazingly comfortable, just a little on the heavy side but this was my second time wearing them so I was more used to it.

OOTD: Hello Spring!

OOTD: Hello Spring!

Mar 25, 2011

top; leggings, bangles, belt-F21
cardigan-borrowed from my sister
boots-Rocket Dog
This is what I wore on the first of Spring. It wasn't too warm out otherwise I would've looked more Spring-like. A simple outfit since it was a Sunday and didn't do much that day. I went out to IHOP and I'm so glad I wore leggings because I ate for like two people that day.

Right now in NYC, the weather is horrid. Real chilly and there has been snow, rain and hail. Ick! Mother Nature really needs to get her act together because I'm itching to wear my peep toe wedge and start showing some leg already!

Once again, I'm doing the AIDS Walk, if you would like to donate, you can go to the right side of my page and click on the link. If you live in the NYC area and would like to walk with my team, leave your email address as a comment and I'll email you the info.

Aquamarine Eyes EOTD

Mar 24, 2011

This was a look inspired by the birthstone for the month of March which is the Aquamarine. I got the idea from a prize package that I received from Jafra Cosmetics (post coming soon!). It included an eyeshadow trio wth the Aquamarine color and thought it would be a great idea for March. It's my favorite month because it's my birthday month of course. I made a video tutorial for this look BUT I was having a hard time trying to edit it because my camera films in mp4 format and the program in my computer refused to reognize it. I'm using a temp computer but hopefully by this weekend, I'll be able to get a new one so I can have videos up again by next week.

Shoes For Spring

Jenn from Spiced Beauty asked for a post on my favorite shoes for Spring. Be sure to check out her blog where she has great makeup and fashion posts. So with the help of Polyvore,  I did a bit of a shoe collage. I enjoyed picking out all these great shoes. Don't be discouraged by the higher-end picks, dupes can be easily found!

One of my favorite shoe trends for Spring is bright colored shoes. I love wearing a bright colored or patterned flat to give an everyday outfit a little bit of life. I am aslo loving espradilles and bright colored wedges. Once again, nude and blush colored hues are big this season. Boho-chic is alo in style once again, I have a pair of the Minnetonka fringed boots shown above and they are so comfy. I can't wait to wear them with denim short and flowy dresses.

I am in love with the Kelsi Dagger pumps with the bow, I have already added them to my wishlist!

So I would like to start collecting stamps. I always see cool new stamps and I find them interesting. So I started off by buying some stamps honoring famous Latinos. I wanted them because they had Selena on them, who is like my idol. What better way to start my collection off?
My stamps. Other Latinos honored were Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Carmen Miranda and Carlos Gardel.

Hav's Haircare Regimen

Mar 14, 2011

This post is soo overdue and I'm glad that I finally did it. So a few of you guys have been asking about my haircare regimen and what hair products I use. Let me by start off by saying that my hair is naturally curly. Most of the time I wear it straightened because it's much easier to manage and I just like it better that way. My hair is also very thick and semi-coarse. I dye it a few times a year, usually in the brunette family.

my hair in its natural state; I'm SO sorry for the crappy photo, I always forget to take a curly hair pic and I remembered when I was at the salon. So this is me sneaking a pic in the salon bathroom.

my hair straightened

Since my hair is constantly being exposed to heat, I try to care for it as much so it can withstand all the things I do to it. Most of the time, I go to the salon for a basic wash and set and then have it blown out. When I do it myself at home, I do a roller set and either just leave it wavy or flat-iron it straight.

Curly hair tends to be a little more drier so i usually lean towards products that provide enough moisture for my hair. I also treat it to hair ampoules or treatments about 2-3 times a month and I trim my ends regularly about every 2 months). Might sound like a lot but it's not and it's worth it. The healthier your hair, the more you can do with it!

Main products that I use (from left to right)...

Silicon Mix Hydrating Shampoo
This product originates from the Dominican Republic but can be found in beauty supplies in Hispanic-oriented neighborhoods. You can also find it online here. This shampoo is a little creamier than regular formulas but it is great for dry and overly processed hair.
L'oreal Ever Pure Sulfate-Free Conditioner for Color Treated Hair (Moisturizing Formula)
This conditioner did wonders for my hair! I love that it's 100% vegan and sulfate-free. I have almost 2 years using this conditioner, and over time my hair has become more manageble and easier to detangle. The Ever Pure line can be found in most drugstores. I usually apply this after shampooing and detangle my hair with a wide-toothed combed. Then I rinse.
Silicon Mix Deep Conditioner w/ Pearl Proteins
I use this as a deep conditioner. Also from the Dominican Republic and can be purchased at the same link above. I apply this after conditioner and leave it on for about ten minutes. For really deep conditioning, I apply it, then I put a shower cap over it then sit under the hair dryer for about 15 minutes in the medium-heat setting. then I rinse comepletely.
Biosilk Hair Serum
I apply this throughout my hair before I flat iron for shine and to serve for heat protection (I also use Tresemme Heat Protectant Spray). After flat-ironing, I apply a little more to seal the style.
The flat iron pictured above is the one I use when i straighten my hair at home. It is the Babyliss 1 inch ceramic flat iron.
I use hair ampoules or deep treatments about 2-3 times a month or less frequently depending on how my hair is. Lately, my hair has been suffering from breakage from my last dye job so Ive been using this product from Matrix Biolage. So far, I'm linking! My hair feels softerand smoother and I'm hoping the breakage and loss is reduced after a couple of more uses. I vary from different brands and types but I mainly use formulas for breakage and for color-treated hair.

And this is my tried and true method for my hair. If you have any questions, dont hesitate to ask! You can use the contact info on the right sidebar.
