Fall 2010 Must Haves

Aug 25, 2010

I am soo excited for Fall! The crisp air and the sound of the leaves crunching beneath my feet are no-fail mood boosters for me. I have made a collage with all the Fall must haves for this upcoming season. I am so excited because my favorite color purple is making a big comeback! I won't have to search endlessly for the perfect purple pieces (alliteration alert!).  Also what's going to be popular is leopard print and the boyfriend-style trend is still going strong. I hope the "boyfriend" trend never dies out, I love boyfriend jeans and cardigans. They're so comfortable to wear and pretty sexy when worn right. I will be having future posts with tips on Fall fashion and on how to wear the trends and plus some budget friendly outfits. Stay tuned!

What are you looking forward to wearing this Fall?

Product Review: Maybelline The Falsies Mascara

Product Review: Maybelline The Falsies Mascara

Aug 18, 2010

Product Description:

Unique flexible wand helps to lift and separate lashes to provide the look of more lashes. Patented spoon brush and kera-fiber formula instantly build 8x more volume without clumping to complete the false lash look.

My Review
So I was buying diapers for Jeremy at Target and of course I wandered off into the Cosmetics section. I saw they had a sale on Maybelline so I figured I'd give this mascara a go. I am totally devoted to CoverGirl Lash Blast but the results that the The Falsies promised tempted me to try it out.

the patented spoon brush The Falsies comes with

I definitely liked the packaging, the tube shape was really cute and I love the magenta color. My lashes did look significantly longer but I didn't see a big change in volume. They only looked a little bit more fuller than usual. I applied two coats, maybe with a third one, I'll see more of a dramatic difference. I feel I get better results with LashBlast when it comes to volume.

All in all, if you want your lashes to look longer, I would recommend this product but notif you're looking for volume. And no, I didn't feel like that my lashes looked like falsies, maybe if they were like a natural looking pair.
Overall rating: 3/5

OOTD: Uptown Swagger

Aug 15, 2010

blazer: F21
jeans: American Eagle Outfitters
sandals: Dolce Vita
purse: H&M (borrowed from my sister)

I like that this outfit is a tad deceiving, on top I look all proper w/ the cut of the jacket and the pastel lavender color of it. But the ripped jeans gives the good girl look a bit of an edge.
Friday night was a Girls' Night. We went to Blockheads, a cool restaurant that serves Americanized Mexican food. The food is good and the drinks are tasty and inexpensive. A great place to go in a group. Afterwards we went walked around in Times Square and we bump into Leo DiCaprio!
So maybe it wasn't the real one..but I did get you a for a second..Or did I?

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

NOTD + Brucci Nail Polish Haul

Aug 12, 2010

My NOTD is For Audrey by China Glaze. I had to order it online because I could not find it anywhere nearby. Rai at Glam-Morena reccomended Head2ToeBeauty.com and i found it there for 2.99! I felt pretty silly placing an order for one nail polish but I wanted this shade so bad. It's almost an exact replica for that Tiffany blue and it's inspired by Audrey Hepburn's character Holly Golightly at Breakfast at Tiffany's; which is one of my favorite movies.

And here are some polishes I bought at my local beauty supply, all by Brucci. I am such a big fan of this brand, this is the brand i wear most of the time. It is super affordable, they have a great variety of shades and it is good quality polish.

from left to right: Pink Flamingo (creme), Kathy's Baby Blues (creme), Jamie Lee's jam (creme), Gold Diggin Tess (metallic), Jimmi's Cognac Cream (metallic)

I love Jimmi's Cognac Cream for Fall. I took these pics on my phone so it didn't capture the true beauty of the colors. Jimmi's cognac cream is a beautiful metallic bronze with some gold in it. The last 3 shades are definitely going to be my regular colors this Fall.

Brucci nail polishes retail at about 2.29-2.79 USD and can be found in most beauty supplies and drugstores (I know Rite Aid carries it).

And I apologize for not posting recently, I've been kind of busy and hopefully things will be back to normal this week.

What nail colors will you be wearing the Fall?

Review: Nailene So Natural Artificial Nails

Review: Nailene So Natural Artificial Nails

Aug 2, 2010

I was contacted by Melissa Sakamoto at Nailene to do a product review. She sent me a whole bunch of goodies to try out and review.

From Nailene: Nailene is a leading artificial nail, French Manicure, and nail treatment brand sold in over 40,000 retail stores with a brand presence in 39 countries. With over 30 years in nail care, Nailene is staking its position as a proud beauty brand with a trendy, affordable style.

Today, I'll be reviewing the Nailene "So Natural" artificial nails. They're the second ones pictured in the photo above. I got sent the "square, short length" style in a french design.

So here is everything  the kit comes with:
comes with a set of 24 nails (varied size), cuticle stick, nail file and nail glue

This kit comes with everything you need basically. So first thing I did was swipe my nails with some acetone and i washed my hands to get rid of any residue I might have on my nails. Then, I followed the instructions on the package which were simple and well written.

Here is a before pic of my nails:

plain and boring

And after:

instant glamour!

I found them to be a little too long and square for my liking. I like my nails to be "rounded square", I don't like sharp corners on them. They were also too long to be considered "short length" in my opinion. So i filed them down a little to make them shorter. I like that they are really easy to work with in terms of filing and shaping.

So here is a pic after i finished filing them and rounding the corners a bit:

As you can see, they look very pretty and natural. I was happy wearing them until the evening when one fell off! I'm here thinking perhaps it was my fault so I just re-glued it. The next morning, another one fell off! So maybe it's the glue that has a flaw and it's the reason why they don't last long. Nailene also sent a glue apart from the kits they sent me but I just used the one that came with the nail kit. So next time, when I try the other set of nails, I will use the other glue instead. Also, when they fall, you don't even feel them. Both times the nail fell, I didn't even know until I saw my finger. The first time I was with my friend but she knew they were fake and the second time I was alone. Both times, I was saved.

Besides the whole nails-falling-off incident, I really liked these nails. They're not flimsy and cheap and they look very nice and natural when you wear them. Also, they're not super thick. And the thing I like the most is that they are super easy to remove and don't damage your real nails. They get major points for that!

the good: look natural, sturdy, easy to use, affordable, doesn't damage your real nails, not time-consuming
the bad: glue in kit is faulty
