Review: Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush

Jul 29, 2010

At the Maybelline display in CVS, they had coupons available for customers. They were promoting the new foundation from their "Dream" line and the coupons were for one dollar off any Dream Mousse blush or foundation. I've always wanted to try the blush, so I took advantage of the coupon and bought a blush in the shade "Cloud Wine (50)". They usually retail at about $6.49 so I paid like $5.49.

One thing I liked is how light and feathery it felt, really nice to the touch. Also, when I swatched it, it had nice color payoff. Here are some swatches:

without flash

It didn't work well with my semi-oily skin at first. The first time I tried it, I just wore it over my tinted moisturizer and it faded rather quickly. But, when I wore it over my foundation after I set it w/ powder, it stayed put nicely. So it's not a good summer everyday product for me because I wear tinted moisturizer more than foundation, unless i'm going somewhere. I would wear this more in the cooler seasons.

the good: good color payoff, light to touch, nice texture, blends well, good price
the bad: not ideal for oily skin in the summer (unless you set w/ powder first), not a lot of shades

I would say give this product a try, it's affordable and it performs well.

OOTD & Mini Clothing-Shoes Haul

Jul 25, 2010

This is what I wore yesterday..didn't do anything major, took Jeremy out and walked around with him. Afterwards we went to my friend's house. It was really hot yesterday and there was a heat advisory out so I didn't want to spend a lot of time outdoors with him since it could be dangerous.

And now for my very small haul, a top and two pairs of shoes. If you follow me on Twitter, then you probably have seen that I have been trying to buy some shoes from Bakers. i wamted to get the Victoria G pumps originally but they were on back order. When they finally were available, I saw that my size were out of stock! What luck..but I found these pretty alternatives, the only difference is that they're pointy-toed and the gold glitter is a little darker but I love these shoes so much. Can't wait to strut in style in them ;).

the shoes I couldn't stop tweeting about

These are some Michael Antonio pumps I bought. I've been into flashy shoes, I love the way they look with an understated outfit.
a top I purchased at the new Forever21 in Times Square, it's enormous. It has 4 floors (I think) and so much stuff! This top has little embellishmentsb shaped like kisses, really cute.

I joined this site named giveawayscout.com. It lets users search for giveaways so it's pretty cool and good if you like entering giveaways. It's also good for promoting your own giveaways.

MakeUp Haul & Lippy Reviews

Jul 22, 2010

Here are some things that I purchased at CVS and Rite Aid. Rite Aid was having a buy one, get one half off for Wet n Wildcosmetics so I decided to try out their new lipsticks since I've heard good things about them. I also got a new Revlon Mineralizing Powder and Wet n Wild bronzer. I really like the Revlon mineralizing powders, I already have one in "Suntan Matte" and I love that they add a nice subtle glow to your face sine they have a small hint of shimmer. I like to set my makeup with it but I've been looking for another powder to set my makeup with for a matte look. I'm open to any suggestions you ladies might have.

So here are some swatches and reviews of the lippies I purchased. I also bought a lipstick from Revlon, Brucci and Rimmel. I've included reviews for them also. Hope you find these helpful.

from left to right: Ravin Raisin, Bare it All & Just Peachy (all by Wet n Wild); Blooming Liliacs by Brucci, Vintage Pink by Rimmel, Berry Haute by Revlon

I am wearing Just Peachy in EOTD & Tutorial: Gold Rush.
I'm wearing Vintage Pink in Aventura Concert!
I'm wearing Berry Haute in My Review for Twilight Saga: Eclipse

And now the reviews..I did them by brand.
"Ravin Raisin", "Just Peachy" & "Bare It All" by Wet n WIld:
pros: goes on smooth, good color payoff, long-lasting
cons: can feel a little dry but this is easily fixed by using a lip balm before applying the lipstick, didn't like the fact that lipstick doesn't go all the way down in the tube

"Blooming Lilacs" by Brucci
pros: true to color, creamy
cons:  fades quickly

"Vintage Pink" by Rimmel
pros: application is super smooth, cute packaging, lipstick goes all the way down in the tube so there's no chance of it getting smushed lol, long lasting, nice scent
cons: none so far

"Berry Haute" by Revlon
pros: smooth application, very creamy, pakaging looks high-end, great pigmentation, long lasting
cons: none so far

I finally made a watermark for my photos that I can use regularly. I want to thank PiinkCupcakez for all her help. She gave me the steps via Twitter which was really nice of her. Isn't it great how everyone helps one another?

Style Spotlight: J.Lo

Jul 20, 2010

Jennifer Lopez is my favorite celebrity fashionista. She almsot never fails, the woman always looks good. She is a style icon. In the 21st century, there a few women that have better style. I love that she knows how to be sexy and classy. Men want to be with her and women want to be her.

Here are some of my favorite J.Lo looks:

the infamous Versace dress! Voted 5th most iconic dress of all time by The Daily Telegraph.

I love all the looks in the "Gonna Be Alright" video, especially the one inspired by "Taxi Driver"

J.Lo was one FIERCE preggo!

perfection!

I can go on forever but for your sake I won't. The point is, love her or hate her; J.Lo has STYLE. I dare you to name a celebrity more stylish than she is! I'm not actually challenging anyone, I'm just emphasizing my point.

OOTD: Rompin' Saturday

Jul 19, 2010

I wore this on Saturday to have an early dinner with my friend Whitney. I haven't seen her in years and it was so much fun catching up and talking and eating. She has a blog of her own which is about sports and entertainment and she's really witty which makes her blog very fun to read so I suggest you check her out at http://writingwithwhitney.blogspot.com/.

This romper was a bit ill-fitting so I added a belt to give it some shape but other than that it was pretty comfortable to wear as most rompers are. The only annoying thing about wearing a one-piece is going to the bathroom..

Interview w/ Jessica Lighter from Cliche Cosmetics

Interview w/ Jessica Lighter from Cliche Cosmetics

Jul 17, 2010

I first heard about Cliche Cosmetics via Twitter and when I saw what they were about, I was intrigued. Here is a girl who started her own cosmetics company so I definitely wanted to interview her for my blog. I sent her an e-mail with some questions and she was great! She answered my e-mail promptly as well as my questions.

Despite some obstacles, she was able to keep her focus and pursue her goals. Throughout this interview, you will get an idea on what kind of girl Jessica Lighter is, the brains behind Cliche Cosmetics..Hope you enjoy!

(Jessica's answers are italicized)

I want to know about the girl behind Cliche Cosmetics..tell me a few things about yourself.
I'm 23, I'm a certified makeup artist and I have a degree in Communications. My dad is a very successful entrepreneur and I always knew I would start my own business. I recently got engaged and am planning my wedding for January:-)

What inspired you to create Cliche Cosmetics?
Well, I used to be a dancer and have always loved all things makeup. I did really well in makeup artistry school, that I kind of attended on a whim. One of my teachers was very encouraging and I finally decided that makeup was what I had to do.I didn't just want to paint faces, I wanted to create products too. I started the company right out of school, while in college but didn't have much time to make it grow. Then, when I was about 21,I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had to take off a semester in school. That's when I really had time to work on the company and really get it started right. It kept my mind off of everything and gave me something positive to focus on.PS- I'm cancer free now :-)

I love the name Cliche Cosmetics, how did you come up with it?
Thanks! A cliche is something popular and used over and over again. I chose this name in the end becuase I really wanted to create a line of high quality cosmetics but at an affordable price and I felt like the name Cliche really expressed that the makeup can be the same, high quality (but the prices are better). Also, we sell stage makeup palettes also that teams of dancers buy so that they all look the same (cliche)

What is your favorite makeup product?

Wow that's tough! I'm a makeup junkie. My all time favorite, can't live without it, product is mascara. But my current product crush is mineral foundation. I wrote an entry in my blog called "True Life:I have a fear of foundation" that explains why but I just think its a great all around product for anyone.

What is your favorite product from your line and why?
My favorite product is the shine eraser. I carry it everywhere. It's just so convenient. It gets really hot in South Florida where I live so one swipe with that and there's no shine!

What does a typical day for you consist of?
No two days ever seem to be the same for me but a typical day consists of me first checking my emails and answering them all, which takes a while. Then I'll start working on whatever project is up next, designing the catalog, directing photoshoots, training distributors, working on new products, marketing, or whatever we are doing at the time. Then I usually have conference calls with sales reps and then I'll go back to the computer andanswer whatever other emails came in. Then around 5pm when I should be going home, I typically get stuck trying to "get ahead"and work on more projects. Sometimes I'll be at work until 10pm and not even notice. I just really love what I do so much.

Are you inspired by any other cosmetics brand? If so, who?

Ya, tons of them! I LOVE makeup, I love so many different brands, not just my own, that's what makeup is really about- variety. I really have to say that I love MAC, when I'm designing products I try to aim for their quality while keeping the prices down.

What's a random fact about you?

I'm totally a crazy cat lady. I have 3 cats that I love to pieces and I'd get more if I had the room.

Aventura Concert- Concierto De Aventura

Jul 12, 2010

If you follow me on Twitter, you know I'm an Aventura fan. I'm always quoting lyrics and whatnot and I wouldn't shut up about how excited I was to see their concert last night. So if I was annoying the heck out of you, sorry I was pretty psyched. Thanks to Johnny Marines (follow him on Twitter: @JohnnyMaries, he's a great guy) I got tickets to see them perform at the IZOD Center in New Jersey last night. I went with my sister Catherine and my best friend Kathy. When we saw our great seats, we freaked out! We were so close, if Romeo would've farted, I bet we would've been able to smell it lol. Pretty gross comparison, but you get the idea...

Aventura by the way is a bachata group. Bachata is native to the Dominican Republic and is like rhythm and blues in spanish, just with a different beat. If you would like to try listening to some of their songs, here are some I reccomend..
Obsesion (album: We Broke The Rules)
La Boda (album: God's Project)
El Perdedor (Album: K.O.B)
Dile Al Amor, El Malo, La Tormenta, Yo Quisiera Amarla (all from "The Last" album. This is their latest album)

Fashion-wise, I wanted to be comfortable. A lot of girls were there in mini dresses and stilettos, which you know they were regretting by the end of the night. It was a venue with seating but I didn't sit down for the whole night. I was jumping and singing, so I'm so glad I wore flat sandals.

Pantene Giveaway/8 Questions Tag

Pantene Giveaway/8 Questions Tag

Jul 8, 2010

I've been really behind on blogging lately, not to add  that there was a heat wave here in NYC (it was 104 degrees on Tuesday!). Just thinking about that hot laptop on my lap was making me sweat so I was being really lazy these past couple of days. I do apologize for that and I've already drafted my future posts so I can post regularly.

I won Rai's Pantene Giveaway at her blog Glam-Morena a few weeks ago. I was super excited because it was my first time winning something via blogger. I got my prize super fast, a little less than a week! So thanks again Rai and Pantene! Here's what I received:

from left to right: hair wrap, Goody brush, Secret deodarant, Pantene "Curls to Straight" shampoo, conditioner and hair ampoules, CoverGirl lip gloss, lip stain and Lash Blast mascara.

I was pleasantly surprised at the fact that they included non-Pantene items which was pretty cool. What was also cool was that I was going to wash my hair the same day the package arrived so instead of using the products I regularly use, I decided to give the Pantene a try. And I must say, I really liked it. I didn't feel anything special with the shampoo but with the conditioner, my hair felt smoother and it it didn't take so long to de-tangle. My favorite are the ampoules, I used one in the shower and Wow! My hair felt super soft and silky. My neighbor set my hair in rollers and she also told me that my hair felt really soft. Usually when I don't do my hair at the salon, i just do a roller set and flat iron the roots. This time, it didn't take long to flat iron the roots and I didn't have to do a lot of flat ironing either which was great for me. This is how my hair looked after they came out of the rollers:

(in case you're wondering..tank-H&M, skirt-F21, sandals-Classified)

So I would most definitely recommend the Pantene ampoules to all my curly-haired girls.

I was tagged by PureBeauty (be sure to check out her blog!) for an 8 Questions Tag. I answered these while I was at work, it did help with making the time go by faster lol. the rules are that I have to answer the 8 questions that the "tagger" asked and I in turn have to tag 8 people and ask them 8 questions..So here are the answers to the questions:

1. where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Working as a nurse, providing a nice life for my son and working on getting published. Or hopefully being published already.

2. what are you addicted too?
Ice cream, mocha iced coffee and shoes.

3. who do you look up too and why?
I look up to my mom because she taught me the importance of being independent. I also admire Audrey Hepburn for her glamour and her great contributions to charity.

4. dream car?
An orange vintage Porsche

5. favorite drug store makeup?
Wet n Wild creme liner and most of Revlon's stuff

6. your number one beauty secret/tip?
Always wear spf!

7. do you exercise...if so, whats your favorite routine?
I like to walk a lot.
8. why do you love to blog?
I love sharing my love for fashion and makeup and meeting new people who share my intetrests.

So in turn I would like to tag:

And here are my questions for them...
1. What is a makeup/beauty product you can't live without?
2. Favorite Childhood Memory?
3. What's your pet peeve?
4. If you were to go to a deserted island, what 3 things would you make sure to have with you?
5.  When you were younger, what did you want as a career?
6. What is one place you would like to travel to?
7. Diamonds or Pearls?
8. What is your favorite perfume?

OOTD: Less is More

Jul 5, 2010

Looking at my OOTD posts, you can probably tell by now that my style is simple/minimalist. I like to wear solids most of the time and add a nice accessory or wear a statement shoe for a bit of an edge. Well in this one, I just did everything very simple. Black form-fitting black dress w/ a skinny belt and sandals. And yes, I find it okay to mix gold and silver if it's only a couple of things and the items aren't too close together (example: my silver ring and gold sandals in this outfit).

I wore this out on  Saturday night to go to Serendipity 3. Serendipity 3 is this awesome ice cream parlor located in the Upper East Side in NYC.  I've always wanted to go so I decided to go on a whim because I had nothing to do that night and Jeremy was spending the weekend with his dad. I ordered the "Forbidden-Broadway Sundae" and it was crazy-delicious! I only took one bad picture on my phone because i was so into eating it. So next time I go, I'll think to take a good pic before I pig out!

And I also wanted to share my new cell phone case..I got it a week ago and I love it! It's so shiny, blingy and an attention-getter lol.
