Fall Trends 2011

Sep 28, 2011

I am so late with this! Here are some of my favorite Fall trends this season.

Royal Blue

I'm loving this color for Fall, it's so rich and opulent. I prefer to wear it as an accent though, not all over. I'm currently wearing it on my nails with OPI's "Dating A Royal". I'm also planning on getting some royal blue shoes to wear with an all-black ensemble.

Ombre Hair

This Summer trend has carried into the Fall. I  like the whole relaxed look that this gives off. I like it on wavy, textured hair because it looks kind of awkward on pin straight hair.

Colored Pants

A nice variation and a very playful way to wear pants this Fall. I can't wait to try this trend out.

Wedged Boots
Wedged boots are still going on strong since last Fall. I have been steadily increasing my own collecytion, my favorite designer of choice being Jeffrey Campbell. I love that they are super comfy and very easy to transform an outfit from day to night.

Ponchos

I love this! So chic and a great way to stay warm until the colder Winter weather gets here. I find ponchos to be so classy and ladylike.

Leather Skirts/Leather Paneled Leggings

Leather always brings a bad ass attitude to whatever outfit you're wearing. I like how leather is mixed in with different textures in the picture above to avoid looking too dominatrix-like. I think the leggings would look great paired with a blazer for a dressy-casual look.

Behind The Scenes at "Eco-Fashion In The Park"

Behind The Scenes at "Eco-Fashion In The Park"

Sep 26, 2011

I was able to visit behind the scenes and chat with a few of the people who participated in "Eco-Fashion In The Park", an event produced by Gina Constanza of House of Glam. Besides a runway show, there were also informative workshops about reducing waste and a clothing swap. A clothing swap is where people can exchange lightly used clothing, so it's like getting new clothes without spending any money or bringing more waste to the environment.

me with Trudy Miller of solutionista.com
this is all she travels with! her clothes can be converted in many different ways to reduce space. she's wearing one of her own garments called "The Kimono Dragon".
ten year old designer Karina Fernandez (second from left) and her adorable models
designers Tom Sohun, Brigite Artis, Wendell Johnston and Sandra Baquero
Miriam Guerrero of Original Wear and her models. how flattered was i when she told me she followed my blog? Very flattered!
Iliana Quander of Amparo 3 prepping a model

I also chatted with a few of the models. Surprisinlgy, this was the first runway show for most of them. I never would've guessed it.
 Gregiory modelling Original Wear
 Diana Salib modelling Ana Segura
 Nereyda Melo
Both Gregory and Nereyda Melo immigrated from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic at a young age while Diana Salib was born and raised in New Jersey. This was the first runway show for both Gregory and Diana. Wendell Johnston was a favorite of Gregory's, "he killed it" was what he said about the designer. Melo's favorite was Lissy Gomez of LVG Designs. All three models practice being "eco-chic" by donating unwanted clothing.

A big thanks to House of Glam and to Anhellic Lozada of Small Biz Latino for creating this event and for inviting me to participate. I had a great time.

Yesterday, I attended the "Eco-Fashion In The Park" event in Highbridge Park in northern Manhattan (Washington Heights). I had a great time and enjoyed seeing the runway show. I reside in the Washington Heights- Inwood neighborhood in northern Manhattan and I was really glad to see that my neighborhood is becoming more conscious of the environment. And also that steps are being taken to teach its residents about being more eco-friendly. District 10 Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez and Gina Constanza did a great job producing this event.

The show was hosted by media personalities The Mari Twins, and they brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm with them. There were a total of 11 designers presenting their works and a lot of the pieces were quite imaginative and unique.

models showcasing designs by accessories designer Marlissa Markario

The show was kicked off by an adorable toddler girl modeling accessories by Marlissa Markario. Marlissa Markario started designing as a hobby, creating accessories for her daughters and nieces. She uses unworn and unwanted clothing for her designs. Her designs were really cute and her models even cuter.

models for Karina Fernandez, a promosing 10 year old designer
one of my favorite pieces being a huge Audrey Hepburn fan

Miriam Guerrero from Original Wear (OW)

Following Marlissa Markario was Karina Fernandez, a ten year old who aspires to be a fashion designer when she grows up. I see a lot of potential in Fernandez, i absolutely loved her designs. They were full of color and different textures. Also, a lot of her pieces were convertible, increasing its uses. Miriam Guerrero had her models dancing down the runway and her show had a lot of energy which went great with the pop inspired tees from the Original Wear line.
designs by Sandra Baquero

Lissy Gomez of LVG designs, I found them to be very fairytale-like

designs by Tom Sohung, really loved the men's zippered hoody.

some of the many ways the "Kimono Dragon" dress by Trudy Miller can be worn

designs by Wendell Johnston, whose jackets have been worn by celebrities such as John Legend

There was also a live demonstration by Trudy Miller. She has a background in architecture and started designing because she wanted clothes that would last her through out the whole day and she won't have to carry around so much bulk with her when she goes to meetings and such. As she was explaining, one of the models was showing some of the many different ways oneof her pieces could be worn. Her "Kimono Dragon' piece can be worn from 6 to 20 different ways, amazing! To learn more about Trudy Miller and her designs, you can go to http://solutionista.com/.

Other designers that presented were Sandra Baquero, Lajuanda Moody, Iliana Quander, Wendell Johnston, Tom Sohun, Brigite Artis, Lissy Gomez and Ana Segura. I was amazed at the different ways these designers used old clothing and other materials to make new designs. I'll admit, sitting there I felt kind of wasteful. I'm the type to find any occasion to buy an outfit for. Seeing these presentations inspired me a little bit to be more creative with what I already have and cut down on shopping. So I too, learned something from this event. And I'm pretty sure a lot of the spectators did too.

Rawr! OOTD

Sep 11, 2011

My best friend's birthday was this past Wednesday so we all went out to celebrate on Friday. We went to a club and had a blast. I wanted to be sexy and comfortable so I paired a basic fitted dress with wedged booties. I love these shoes because not only are they incredibly fierce but also very comfy! I found the dress to be sexy in a classy way since it didn't show much skin.

my hair was sooo frizzy by the end of the night *sighs*

Dress: American Apparel
Clutch: F21
Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell (I purchased them off of www.ssense.com)
