Beauty Trend: Ombré Lips

May 28, 2012

Let's face it, ombré is a trend that's making a BIG splash. We've seen start with ombré hair and now we're starting to see it in clothing as well. Ombré is now making it's way towards makeup. One trend I am liking is ombré lips. There's different ways that the look is being worn:

The third image is so pretty but it is something that I won't wear outside. The one that you can get away with wearing the most is where your lip color is darker on the edges and it gets lighter as it reaches the middle. This is the look that I tried on myself.

All you need is a dark lipstick and a lighter lipstick or a concealer. I used CoverGirl lipstick in "Divine" (a magenta color) and Physicians Formula Concealer Twins Correct and Cover cream concealer (the "light" shade). First you apply the dark color all over your lips, then you apply the lighter color to your pout and then you blend it out. Be sure sure to keep the edges of your lips darker. I retouched mine with the darker color to make them stand out more.

you can add a clear gloss on top to switch it up a bit and give it a more edgy look. I used Flirt! Squeeze Me lipgloss in "Moonlight Spice"

HAUL: Maybelline Porcelain Collection & Color Tattoo Shadows

May 23, 2012

This is a few things that I have gotten the past couple of weeks. I purchased two lipsticks from the Maybelline Color Sensational Porcelains collection along with a few of the Color Tattoo eye shadows. Here are pictures and swatches below:

"Nude Nuances" (left) and "Porcelain Pink"

I purchased two shades "Nude Nuances" and "Porcelain Pink". Porcelain Pink looks more like a lilac to me. The lipsticks have cream finishes and the colors are quite lovely. The packaging is pretty too, the tubes are silver with a frosted lilac-y cap.

This collection is limited edition and it also has eye shadow quads as well. But the shadows didn't really catch my eye. I found these at my local Rite Aid and Rite Aid is having a BOGO 50% off on Maybelline. I was glad that the lipsticks counted towards the discount.

I also purchased the Color Tattoo eye shadows a couple of weeks back after hearing great reviews.
from top to bottom: "Painted Purple", "Too Cool" and "Pomegranate Punk"

I can't wait to try these out. I can tell already that they have good staying power because I had to do vigorous rubbing with a baby wipe to remove the swatches from my hand.

A Week In Outfits

May 21, 2012

Well not a whole week more like three days. You get what I mean though right?

There was a little variety this week from mixing pastels to wearing bright accent colors. I'm trying to wear different styles more. My personal style is getting more bold little by little.

Notice anything different about me? I finally cut my hair after debating it for months. I cut about 3 inches off and now it's a little past my shoulders.

Cosmo For Latinas Bloggers Breakfast

Cosmo For Latinas Bloggers Breakfast

May 20, 2012

Macy's has a new campaign named "Brasil" featuring limited edition collections from several designers as well as makeup brands. This campaign is enriched with bright colors, and lots of sensual styles. Macy's in Herald Square collaborated with  Cosmo For Latinas for promotion of this collection and they invited several fashion and beauty bloggers for a sneak peek at some of the items. I was so excited to attend. I'm so glad that Latin culture is getting more known in the fashion and beauty world.

If you haven't picked up the Cosmo For Latinas Premiere issue, be sure to! Zoe Saldana is on the cover, a Dominicana! I enjoyed the issue a lot. It's nice to see things like bachata being mentioned in a mainstream magazine. I also loved the use of "Spanglish". Mixing Spanish phrases when I'm speaking English is something I do on a daily basis haha.

Tutorial: Newspaper Print Nails (UPDATED)

Tutorial: Newspaper Print Nails (UPDATED)

May 16, 2012

So I was browsing through Glamour magazine's June issue and I see them mention a nail kit from Sephora that will give you nespaper nail art for your nails. Then I saw the price advertised as sixteen dollars! Which is crazy since I have done newspaper print nails on myself for free practically.

I did this post last Summer and decided to give it an update. It's incredibly easy to do!

What You'll Need:

  • vodka (You can also use rubbing alchohol)
  • base coat
  • nail color of your choice: I used L'oreal "Walk On The Beach"
  • top Coat
  • strips of newspaper (I only cut up two because I only did two accent fingers but you'll need one for each finger)
  • something to dip your finger in (I used a shot glass)

How-To:
1. Paint nails in the color of your choice and let them dry completely.

2. Pour vodka in shot glass (enough to cover whole nail) and dip your finger in it.

3. Place a strip of newspaper big enough to cover the nail on the nail and press it for 30 seconds

(do not move the newspaper strip).

4. Remove strip and seal with a top coat and Voila! Fab nails and you just saved yourself $16.00. Thank me later :P.

Summer Must-Haves

Summer Must-Haves

May 15, 2012

It's been a while since I've done a fashion post. I'm dedicating this one to items that every girl should have for this upcoming Summer. I have items with different price ranges so there's something for everyone. Enjoy!

Maxi Dresses

They are most definitely a must-have. They add elegance, flatter all body types and you can skip shaving your legs. Bright prints are nice for the day while a sleek style with tasteful cutouts adds more sultriness for the nighttime.

Neon Colors

The 80s always seems to find a way to come back. The modern way to wear it is to use a neon color as an accent color and not all over to avoid looking like Vanilla Ice. Bolder girls can even pair two neon colors together as a form of color blocking. For example a neon top and shoe.

Neon

Chiffon

This fabric is quite lovely. It adds a nice, fairy like feel to an outfit. It's delicate and ultra-feminine. I am loving it especially in hi-lo skirts. Hi-lo skirts are great if you want to show some leg but have the elegance of a maxi skirt. They look best when worn with a heeled shoe.
