FOTD: Pretty In Pink

Feb 14, 2018

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope your day is full of lots of love. Whether it be from a lover, friend, family or even yourself! Love is love. I wanted to post this yesterday but I had a migraine and you know how that goes. Any bit of brightness is intolerable. I hope you still enjoy this look.

I did a semi cut crease with some smokiness in there. I think this look is playful and sexy. I love cut creases because I have teeny eyes and I can create a larger lid to give the illusion of bigger eyes. Those of you with natural lid space are so lucky! I also want to mention that the ABH shadows I used came from two palettes that I own but they are also available as singles if you wish to purchase them.

My Name is Hav and I Suffer From Depression

Feb 6, 2018

An Introduction...

I have been wanting to expand into writing about different topics for a while now but I have been afraid to do so. I really dislike sharing personal details about my life. And it is incredibly scary to share something that still holds a stigma. However, I have noticed that there seems to have been an increase in suicides in people among my age. Mental Illness is very tough to talk about. If my opening up encourages more people to do the same; it would help break down the walls a little at a time.

I have suffered from Depression ever since I was a kid, around eight years old. There would be times where I would just get sad and/or burst into tears. Growing up in a Latino community, I was labeled as a "llorona" or overly sensitive. At school, it was suggested that I started seeing a therapist. So my mom started taking me to one. I have been in and out of therapy for years.

Last Summer, I also started suffering from anxiety.  I'm not going to lie, this was particularly difficult to deal with. I wasn't understanding what was happening to me. My body was reacting in ways that I couldn't control. I would start feeling like I can't breathe and I would be scared that I was going to die. Luckily, I have not had an anxiety attack in months.

There were a lot of times in my life, where the Depression would be so great, that I wouldn't think that I couldn't win the battle against it. One of these times was after having my son, Jeremy. I had a really bad case of Postpartum Depression. It was so bad that there was a point where I would be scared to be home alone because of the really bad thoughts I was having. I was lucky enough to have found a support group that helped me through it because at that time, I really felt like I couldn't.

As I've gotten older, I have come to accept that Depression is something that I would have to live with. I just refuse to let it define who I am. That is one of the reasons why I don't really talk about it. I didn't want people thinking of me as "the depressed girl". But talking about it and dealing with it is one way I will not let it control me.

FOTD: Rihanna-Inspired Grammys Look

Jan 31, 2018

The Grammys aired a couple of days on the 28th and there were a lot of great looks. One of the looks that stood out in particular to me was Rihanna's when she was performing her song with DJ Khaled "Wild Thoughts". She had a beautiful purple eyeshadow that complemented her dress beautifully. According to her makeup artist, Rihanna was wearing products from her Fenty Beauty line that have not been released. I cannot wait to see what she has up her sleeve.

I used some shadows from MAC to recreate this look the best way I can. For my cheeks and lips, I applied a creamy blush to add a dewy look. Overall, I loved recreating this look. The colors were very pretty and it was really easy to execute. Would definitely wear this out.

Mask Monday: Fantasy Blue Glittering Peel-Off Mask

Jan 29, 2018

Korean Beauty is taking the beauty world by storm. While I do not partake in the 10 Step Skincare Routine (pretty close though!), I've become a big fan of Korean products. The packaging is super adorable and most products are pretty affordable.

I was at Urban Outfitters when I spotted the Fantasy mask. The glittery box immediately caught my eye. Glitter face masks are a huge trend right now. Even big brands like TooFaced and Glam Glow are hopping on the glitter bandwagon. I love sparkly s**t so I definitely wanted to give it a try. This mask was only $14, which didn't hurt my pockets too much. Besides it being glittery, the mask is a peel-off formula that promises to remove sebum and other impurities of the skin. I have been struggling with some acne for the past month or so and I have been making changes to my regimen to correct it. This mask sounded promising.

The mask comes with a silicone wand for application, which was pretty cool. It made applying the mask a lot easier since the formula was pretty thick. I applied the mask with the wand, in downward strokes. It's best to apply in one direction to make the peel-off process easier. I really liked the scent of this mask, it was nice and pleasant. The application process was fairly easy and mess-free.

Mask Instructions:
  • Cleanse and dry face.
  • Apply mask using applicator.
  • Relax for 20-30 minutes
  • Peel off mask.
I'm Blue!

I was expecting the mask to be a lot more glittery so I was disappointed when it was more of a pearl-effect. It did look pretty cool, still. The peel-off processing was only a tad uncomfortable. I had a little discomfort around the under-eye area. I started from the outer edges and peeled off towards the center. It came off in one go minus a few little flakes, which washed off easily with warm water. There was some slight redness but my face did feel a little softer and tighter. With regular use, I expect to see some overall improvement with my skin.

The Fantasty Blue Glittering Peel-Off Mask is available at Urban Outfitters for $14.

Winter Is Coming FOTD

Dec 2, 2017

I'm late to the party but I have recently started watching Game of Thrones and I am obsessed! It's so good! I used one of the quotes of the series to name this Winter-inspired look. I mixed a couple of blues to create the color on my lid and kept my crease warm. I liked how the contrast looked and makes the look more wearable. Click for more photos!
