Low-Key Saturday OOTD

I wore this last Saturday as I went about my day. It's not too often that I post casual outfits. Believe it or not, I don't live in heels. For everyday, I like to be comfy without sacrificing style. I abhor being frumpy. As Karl Lagefeld once said : "sweatpants are a sign of defeat."

 I wore this outfit the whole day since I just had a girls night in later on. There's days that I would change like three times for different occasions.


Me puse este cojunto el sábado pasado cuando fui con mi día. No has sido muchas veces que a puesto trajes casuales. Lo creas o no, yo no vivo en zapatos con tacones. Para todos los días, me gusta estar cómodo sin sacrificar el estilo. Aborrezco ser anticuado. Como Karl Lagefeld has dicho: "sweatpants son un signo de la derrota."

 Me puse este traje durante todo el día ya que sólo tenía una "noche de chicas" , platicando con mis amigas  Hay días que me a cambiado de ropa hasta tres veces para ocasiones diferentes.

DIY Collar Necklace

Collar necklaces are a BIG trend this fall (see my post on fashion trends). They come in a variety of styles. I decided to get my DIY on and make my own. I followed the instructions on Henry Happened to make mine. I bought my supplies at Michael's in the Upper West Side. I got everything for less than $15.00. It was fairly easy to do, you just need patience and a good eye.

Here is how mine came out. I used slightly different shades of gold for a subtle contrast.

 I can't wait to wear it against fall colors, particularly oxblood and eggplant.

Fashion Trends For Fall 2012

Aaaah Fall. Fall brings us daylight savings, Thanksgiving and Fashion Week. Also, a whole plethora of new trends for us fashionistas to divulge in. Here are my favorite ones for this upcoming season

Wedged Sneakers

I only wear sneakers to go to the gym (which I barely go to anyway) or if it's raining and I don't want to wear my rain boots. Other than my converse, you won't see me wearing them much. But these are tres cute! Isabel Marant was the originator behind the wedged sneakers and now more affordable options are popping everywhere. These are great for casual wear and adds a little more glamour to a laid-back look.

Oxblood

This beautiful shade of red looks great as both as an accent color or as a neutral. It's so sensual and dark and it instantly dresses up any look with the richness in color. Oxblood is the new black!

Embellished Collars/Collared Necklaces

This is perhaps one of the most economical trends. A funky collared necklace can dress up a plain tee or jazz up your favorite jeans with an embellished collared shirt. You can even make a DIY embellished top or necklace. I made a necklace myself which I will be showing soon.

Printed Pumps

This list wouldn't be complete without me doing a set with shoes! Printed pumps are a must. With a variety of patterns and textures, there's a pair for any outfit. The best statement you can make with an outfit is with your shoes and a pair of one of these bold-patterned shoes will say the best about you.

Haul Post

A haul of items I bought and some brief thoughts on a few of the items.

I was very pleased with all the lip products. As you can see, I was on a pink kick. "Fairytale" is a beautiful coral color and all the other lip products had good color payoff. I would recommend these for women of color as well, these colors would look great on darker skin tones.

The NYX stick blush had a very nice and creamy formula. It blends nicely and I really like the color a lot. It applies a little sheer but it can be built up.

I got one shade from the new matte shadows collection from NYX. It swatched nicely and I will be using it for crease-work mostly.

I also discovered a new brand called LiSi Cosmetics while walking through NoHo in NYC. It is a highly  affordable brand (a lot of the products are under $15.00) and in the store they have sample products for you to swatch. The store is located in 741 Broadway in Manhattan. I bought a blush and concealer. I was impressed by the color payoff with the concealer, I got the shade "Maldives" and it is VERY pigmented so a light hand would definitely be needed. The concealer, not so much. Barely any coverage. I'll go more in depth on the concealer in a separate post about LiSi Cosmetics.

I was lucky enough to be invited to Cosmopolitan/Cosmo for Latinas Summer Splash party at Hudson Terrace in Hell's Kitchen which is in NYC. Hudson Terrace is a nice venue with an outdoor deck as well. Skinny Girl Cocktails and complimentary cocktails were served. They were quite tasty but they're not that strong haha. There was also a manicure and hair streaking station which I indulged in. A hottie gave a bright purple streak in my hair.

I also got a goody bag (best part about parties) to take home. It was a pink tote bag and it had a Skinny Girl wine opener, Splat t-shirt and hair kit, and a sample size of argan oil among other cool stuff.
