FOTD: Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta Inspired

Aug 10, 2013

This look was inspired by a mix of two looks that Rasheeda wore on both reunions for Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta. I filmed a tutorial to go with this look but Windows Movie Maker refuses to open on my laptop, I have no reason why. I was very frustrated because I spent four hours downloading updates for it to work. If you guys have any suggestions to make it work please share them or if you know of any other video editing software so I can have this tutorial up.

I combined the yellow eye look Rasheeda wore to the first reunion with a purple lip. She had a purple lip for the second reunion with a chartreuse-colored eye. So I combined them both and made the purple lip a little more vibrant. Hope you enjoy!

Sangria Inspired Lips

Sangria Inspired Lips

Aug 1, 2013

One of my favorite summertime activities is dining al fresco. And I love to drink sangria while eating. It is such a delicious drink. I had the most amazing guava sangria not too long ago and I was mesmerized by the color of it. It had a pink tinge to the deep red color and I was dying to find a lipstick that color. I thought it would be such a great lip color for the summertime, something different from all the brights that we are used to seeing. And the pink in it keeps it from looking to dark, I think.

Here is my lip recipe for the perfect sangria lip color:

1. As always, start with clean, moisturized lips. You don't want cracks and dryness.
2. Line your lips with a fuchsia colored lip liner. I used NYX slim lip pencil in "Fuschia".
3. Fill in your lips with the Fuchsia lip liner.
4. Apply a rich red lip color over the lip liner. I used the appropriately named "Sangria" by Milani. I added the pink to get the guava-sangria color I was going after.

Glow Baby Glow: My Favorite Highlighters

Jul 9, 2013

clockwise from top: Maybelline Dream Sun Bronzing Face Illuminator, Loreal True Match Liquid Bronzer, Benefit Watts Up! highlighter, Urban Decay Eyeshadow "Vanilla", MAC Extra Dimension Skin Finish "Double Definition"

It's the summa-summatime! Which calls for tan and glowing skin a la Jennifer Lopez. Jennifer Lopez is truly my inspiration when I do "glowing skin" because she is the queen of it. I have compiled a list of my favorite highlighters to use when I want to be a glowing, bronzed goddess. They are all at different price points and come in different finishes as well.

1. Maybelline Dream Sun Baronzing Face Illuminator $6.99: This was part of the Maybelline Summer collection and it is limited edition unfortunately. You still might be able to find it at some drugstores, however. I love using this on my cheeks and for mixing it in with my foundation for an all-over glow.
2. Loreal True Match Liquid Bronzer "Medium Bronze" $7-8.00- I love, love, love mixing this with my foundation! It gives you the most beautiful and subtle golden sheen. This can be used for everyday because it's not too over the top, even with a tinted moisturizer.
3. Benefit Watts Up! Highlighter: I received this sample size as a Beauty Insider birthday gift from Sephora. I'm planning to buy a full-size as soon as I finish this one. I like this as a base highlighter, it is not too glittery and doesn't give a too-shiny appearance to the face.
4. Urban Decay eyeshadow "Vanilla" $18.00- Yes this is an eyeshadow, but it doubles as an amazing powder highlight. I like to use this over a cream highlighter to set it but it works very well on it's own as well. It has great pigmentation and it is similar to NARS "Albatross" highlighter. Plus it's $20 cheaper!
5. MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish "Double Definition" (limited edition)- This has really unique texture, liquidy smooth if it even makes sense. But it is gorgeous on tan skin, and does not look powdery at all. Use each shade individually or swirl them together for more depth.
6. Hard Candy Glow all the Way "Tropical Tan": This is a liquid bronzer and also works as a self tanner. I never use this by itself because this stuff is super potent as you can see in the swatch photo. I like to mix it with my foundation and a little goes a long way.

Pantene Ultimate 10 BB Creme Review

Jun 22, 2013

Unless you live under a rock, you must have heard about BB cremes and what they can do for your skin. BB Cremes are taking the beauty industry by storm and now there's BB cremes for hair as well! They are similar in concept to the skin ones, they repair your hair and help maintain it at the same time. I have seen hair BB cremes at Sephora and now they have managed to trickle down to the drugstores. I was given the chance to review one by Pantene.

Product Description: Inspired by skincare's BB phenomenon, this leave-in formula gives hair a healthy look while preparing it for enhanced styling control and a silky, smooth finish.

Pantene’s first BB Crème for hair, Ultimate 10 BB Crème is a revolutionary multi-tasker to be used on wet or dry hair—for a flawless, healthy-looking finish. Dare to get 10 solutions in 1 easy step.• Repair for Rough Hair• Strength Against Damage• Silky Softness• Brilliant Shine• Smoothing• Moisture• Frizz Control • Heat Protection• Manageability • Tamed Flyaways

I used the product two ways: on my hair when it was wet for styling preparation and on dry hair to smooth my hair style. When I do my own hair, I start off with a roller set. So I applied some to my hair while it was wet then proceeded to to put it in rollers. It did feel a little sticky while I was doing my roller set so I was scared that my hair was going to be all greasy. After removing the rollers, I flat ironed my roots and I did notice that my hair was a little easier to flat iron and that my roots weren't as curly. I feel that the BB Creme did nothing to prevent frizz because my hair did get frizzy. Then again, it was very hot and humid out that day. But when I applied some to my dry hair to retouch it, it did calm down a large amount of the frizz so I would definitely recommend this for taming frizz.

I like using the product better on my hair when it's dry because I feel like that it works better on smoothing out my hairstyle. When I curled my hair, the style held very well and I didn't have to use so much hairspray. It kept my hair looking great on the several occasions that I used it.

I also took it with me to the salon for my usual blowout. I used it on my wet hair only this time. Again, after my hair was removed from the rollers, I did see that it was smoother  and that my hair was easier to blow dry. It cut down the time of my blowout by about 25% which is pretty good.

I didn't feel that this product did any repair on damage but my hair is healthy overall so I can't really judge it on that but it did do a large amount of the things that it claims to do. I would recommend this product especially if you style your hair often and you want something to make the styling process easier and less time-consuming. And it does do a great job in smoothing down your hair and taming the flyaways. It retails for $5.29 so you can't beat the price!

Pros: affordable, works on ethnic hair, cuts back on styling time, helps make hair more manageable, adds shine, tames frizz and flyaways
Cons: doesn't prevent frizz, sticky texture
Overall Rating: 3.5/5

OOTD: Chicly Cropped

Jun 18, 2013

I think the part of my body that I least like to show off is my midriff. Maybe it's because I have a long torso. Cropped tops are everywhere now and I just love how they look with high waist lines. Perfect for the girl that wants to show just a little sliver of midriff. Like me! And it's a more chic way to wear the cropped trend.

And a high waistline comes in handy when you gorge on buffalo wings and need to hide the bloating for your blog photos. This is a random scenario of course...
