Style Spotlight: Celia Cruz

I enjoy doing the Style Spotlight series on my blog because quite often Latinos are overlooked in fashion. I like to honor those that have a great personal style and by showing some pictures of my favorite looks.

I chose Celia Cruz because she was truly iconic. She was way ahead of the wig game before Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj came along. Her bold, colorful style reflected her huge personality. Celia Cruz was a vibrant woman that just enjoyed living life. "La Vida Es Un Carnaval" is still one of my favorite songs. RIP Celia Cruz and thank you for showering us all with your colorful persona.

Elegí Celia Cruz porque era verdaderamente un icono. Ella estaba muy por delante del juego peluca antes de Katy Perry y Nicki Minaj llegó. Su estilo audaz, colorido refleja su personalidad enorme. Celia Cruz fue una mujer vibrante que sólo disfrutaba de la vida viva. "La Vida Es Un Carnaval" sigue siendo una de mis canciones favoritas. RIP Celia Cruz y gracias por la ducha a todos con su personalidad colorida.

What I admired most about Celia Cruz was that she didn't let age be a factor in her personal style. She wore whatever she felt like without a care. She epitomizes the saying "you are as old as you feel" and continues to inspire future generations of entertainers.

Lo que más admiraba de Celia Cruz era que ella no dejó que la edad sea un factor en su estilo personal. Llevaba lo que ella sentía como sin cuidado. Ella personifica el dicho "eres tan viejo como te sientes" y sigue inspirando a las futuras generaciones de artistas.

Style Spotlight: Selena Quintanilla Perez

I've been wanting to do a style spotlight post on Selena for so long and today is the perfect day for it since it is the 17th anniversary of her death. I have  been a fan ever since I was a little girl. And the fact that we share the same zodiac sign (Aries) makes so much sense because I too have a fondness for extravagance. I love having bold colors or embellishments (mainly shoes) as accents for an outfit.

Till this day, I admire Selena's amazing style and how she was ahead of her time with her sense of style. She also wasn't afraid to show off that incredible figure. Those skin-tight pants are iconic! So here's to you Selena, for continuing to inspire me and many other girls and women around the world.

 the pleated maxi skirt is a big trend for Spring 2012. She was very fashion-forward for pairing it with a cropped top.

 I love that Selena was so sexy in a tasteful way. She showed skin but didn't go over the top. She didn't have to be half naked for the attention. Instead she drew attention to her herself with blinged out clothing, bold shoulders and big hair. So here's to you Selena for paving a way for female celebrities today when it came to fashion. May you rest in peace.

Style Spotlight: Anthony "Romeo" Santos

This is my second post in my "Style Spotlight" series where I talk about a celebrity's style and post some of my favorite looks that they have done. The first person I did this on was on the eternally fashionable J.Lo (you can see the J.Lo post here. I decided it would be fun to do a post on men's fashion so for the second celeb, I chose the very smooth Anthony "Romeo" Santos.


If you already know, I am a HUGE fan of the group Aventura. If you follow me on Twitter, you might know that I have a crush on their lead singer Romeo. Not only does he have the looks but he has great style sense. He always looks so put together and stylish without making it look too metrosexual lol.


His style has evolved somewhat in the past few years. He has finally found his niche and most of the time he's in classic, cool pieces and mixes it up once in a while by wearing a cool-looking jacket. For the red carpet, he keeps it sharp with a well cut suit and usually paired with a pastel shirt. Or sometimes he'll pair dress pants with a suit jacket in an unexpected color. You have to love a man who has fun with fashion.

Este es mi segundo post en mi serie de "Style Spotlight" donde hablo sobre el estilo de una estrella y después de algunos de mis looks favoritos que han hecho. La primera persona que aparecio esto fue la bella J. Lo (se puede ver elmensaje J. Lo aquí.) Decidí que sería divertido hacer un postsobre la manera de los hombres que para las celebridades en segundo lugar, escogí el muy suave Anthony "Romeo" Santos.

Si usted ya sabe, yo soy un gran fan del grupo Aventura. Si me sigues en Twitter, debes saber que tengo estoy locamente enamorada del vocalista Anthony "Romeo" Santos. No sólo tiene la apariencia pero se ha sentido un gran estilo. Él siempre se ves hermoso y con estilo sin verse demasiado metrosexual.

Su estilo ha evolucionado mucho en los últimos años. Finalmente, ha encontrado su lugar y la mayoría de las veces en piezas clásicas, fresca y la mezcla de vez en cuando con el uso de una chaqueta color vibrante. Por la alfombra roja, que se mantiene fuerte con un traje bien cortado y por lo general se combina con una camisa color pastel. O a veces él parpantalones de vestir con un traje chaqueta en un color inesperado. Tienes que amar a un hombre que se divierte con la moda.
