One of the best things about being a beauty aficionado in NYC is the great number of beauty supplies I have available. From Ricky's to independent stores, they all offer awesome products that you might not find easily. I was browsing through one when I saw a display for Ruby Kisses Matte Lip Lacquers. Like my fellow makeup hoarders, I have been crazy about liquid matte lipsticks lately. The lipgloss-lipstick hybrid is just so convenient and I absolutely love the finish!

The display had a whole lot of shades to choose from, they even had non-conventional colors like yellow and blue! And they were only $3.99! I picked out three shades to test out. For the blog of course ;).
The lip lacquers come packaged in a slim tube with a matte finish matching the shade inside. One thing that's annoying is that all the product info is on a sticker that you have to remove before opening the product for the first time. It was a bit of a pain to remove. However, I do like the applicator. It is slim and flat so you get a very precise application of the product.
I only got to swatch "Narcissism" and "Mirage" on my lips. My lips were pretty dry by the time I applied "Think Pink" and it looked absolutely terrible. Very uneven. I will update this review with pictures of that shade.

Ruby Kisses Matte Lip Lacquer "Narcissism" |
Mirage: Is a mauvey color and this particular shade has been pretty popular lately. I didn't have much difficulty to apply this shade. Two coats and the color was even. This color lasted about four hours for me before I had to re-apply it.
Narcissism: I love this shade! A very pretty coral that is perfect for Spring. This has pretty good lasting power too. I wore it too work and didn't have to re-apply it once. It faded into a very nice, wearable stain. I was pretty impressed with the staying power.
Think Pink: This is a bubblegum pink color. I believe it works for darker skin tones but it does highlight a lot of the lines and dryness in your lips so be sure to prep and prime those lips before wearing it.

Ruby Kisses Matte Lip Lacquer "Mirage"
These do not dry ass matte as other liquid lipsticks I own. But I still like the finish and the fact that they are so affordable. And you can always make them more matte with a light dusting of translucent powder. There a bunch of different colors for you to choose from and with the $3.99 price, you can afford to try several.
You can probably find these matte lip lacquers at any beauty supply that carries Ruby Kisses. I found these at Total Beauty Supply which is located at 650 W 181st St. They are also available online at Bejour.com.
